The BCF is managed by an experienced and professional team familiar with the challenges and opportunities associated with the financing and development of minority-owned businesses.
Serafin Mariel brings 35 years of experience in providing access to capital for MBEs. In 1981 he organized a group of predominantly minority investors and formed New York National Bank (NYNB). The bank was well known for its lending to small businesses, not-for-profits and its economic development activities in inner-city communities.
Mr. Mariel has been actively involved in the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC) for over thirty years, twenty five of which as its Treasurer and member of the Executive Committee. He was instrumental in the creation of the Business Consortium Fund and raising its initial capital primarily from the corporate members of NMSDC. And was the founder of Triad Capital Corporation of New York (Triad), a Special Small Business Investment Company licensed by the Small Business Administration, while at New York National Bank. Triad provides long term debt, mezzanine financing and venture capital financing to minority entrepreneurs.
Mr. Mariel has dedicated his career to the economic development of the minority community.
Ruben Rodriguez is an experienced business professional with 30 years of in-depth knowledge of finance
and small business relationship with JPMorgan Chase Bank, Bank of America, and New York National Bank. He joined the Business Consortium Fund in May 2012 and is involved in
all aspects of the BCF with particular focus on managing the organization's loan portfolio.
Before joining the BCF, Ruben managed the loan portfolio for Seedco Financial Servies, Inc. (currently known as Trufund Financial Services, Inc.) a national not-for-profit organization that provides affordable capital, hands-on business assistance
and solutions to small businesses, not-for profit organizations and real estate developers.
Ruben received his BA degree in Economics from Lehman College in the Bronx in 1989.
Thomas C. Fitzgerald has been a member of the BCF Board of Directors since 1987 and served as its Chairman from 1990-1994. He is currently Executive Vice President & COO of BCF Business and Financial Advisory Services, Inc., and Chairman, Triad Capital Corporation.
Mr. Fitzgerald is the retired Vice President and Treasurer of Hershey Foods Corporation. During his 25 year career with Hershey he was responsible for developing and executing the Company's capital market and financing strategies and all Treasury based activities including cash management, interest rate and foreign exchange exposure management, benefit asset investment, investor relations, credit administration, risk and insurance, and commodity procurement and hedging.
A native of Louisville, Kentucky, Mr. Fitzgerald received a BA degree in Economics from Western Kentucky State University.
Ms. Vallejo joined the BCF in 1994 as Office Manager and moved to her current position as Vice President/Controller in 2000. A native of New York, Ms. Vallejo received an associates degree in Secretary Science from Monroe College in the Bronx and a BS in Accounting from Lehman College in 1993.
Ms. Garcia joined the BCF in May 1996 and assumed her current responsibilities in September 1996. Prior to joining the BCF, Ms. Garcia worked as assistant to the Economic Development Specialist of the Bronx Council for Economic Development. Ms. Garcia received her BA degree in Economics and Business Management from Lehman College.
